THE HISTORY OF THE 2nd Bn. THE KING’S SHROPSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY(85th Foot) IN THE CAMPAIGN IN N.W EUROPE 1944-1945

Price range: £15.99 through £25.99

A lively account of the 2nd Battalion’s campaign in North-West Europe, from the build-up to D-Day to the final battles in Germany. Landing in the sixth wave with the 3rd Infantry Division during Operation Overlord, the battalion advanced toward Caen but failed to seize the objective in the face of resistance from the 21st Panzer Division. It subsequently fought through Normandy, the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden, the Reichswald battles, and the final assault on Bremen with the British Second Army. In March 1945, James Stokes of the battalion was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
