Most of the operations in West Africa (which were of an almost continuous nature) took place in Nigeria. Operations in East Africa tended to be far inland, such as the lengthy operations against the ‘Mad Mullah’, a Muslim religious leader, in Somaliland. The only occasion on which a sizeable British force was deployed was during the Somaliland operations of 1902-04.
