In this two volume set, bound as one, Robert Ker Porter writes an extensive series of letters covering his travels through these countries in the years 1805 to 1808. Following his training at the Royal Academy he gained a reputation for his paintings which included scenes of battle including Seringapatam.
Here he uses his skills to illustrate his personal views of the peoples and countries visited, with forty one sketches contained in, mainly colour, plates which vividly bring to life his subject matter. Hence we are able to see these fascinating lands through his own eyes in this pleasing period travelogue.
