This personal memoir of an observer with an RFC/RAF bombing squadron on the western front in 1917-18 was published by its psudonymous author ‘Night Hawk’ M.C. ( W.J.Harvey) in November 1918 when his memories of the war were still very fresh, and is based on articles that the author wrote in the ‘Daily Mail’, ‘War Illustrated’ and ‘Flying’.. Harvey’s squadrom raided behind enemy lines and even ranged as far afield as Germany (‘Hunland’) itself. The author’s ‘record of adventures – some grim, some gay’ as he writes – is a valuable and interesting addition to accounts of the Great War in the air.
