This volume is somewhat the unsung hero from Howard Williamson’s GREAT WAR MEDAL COLLECTORS COMPANION series perhaps due to specialised nature. However it is a remarkable piece of work that gives important core information.
Volume III of GREAT WAR MEDAL COLLECTORS COMPANION moves on to the Divisions and Units of the British Army and their Locations throughout the Great War, and gives an in-depth look at the Royal Engineers, the Machine Gun Corps, and the Army Cyclist Corps. For each, Williamson examines areas such as:
Origins. How the Units came into begin. Roles. What was expected of them. Equipment. What kit they used to perform their roles. Organisation. Where they fitted into the bigger picture. Deployment. Theatres of war here the various sections were sent. Awards. Some of the honours and awards that were earned.
