A useful survey and framework for further study. Covering the German Strategic Plan from 1871 through to 1918. Each chapter devoted to the more important separate campaigns and battles without a connected narrative to all German operations. The book was published as a result of lectures given at the Staff College between 1920-23 and is complete with 17 good full page colour maps.
The author was a career RE officer who won the VC On 19 December 1914 at Neuve Chapelle, France, “Lieutenant Neame, in the face of very heavy fire, engaged the Germans in a single-handed bombing attack, killing and wounding a number of them. He was able to check the enemy advance for three-quarters of an hour and to rescue all the wounded whom it was possible to move.”
