This document, issued by the General Staff (Intelligence) at GHQ BEF on 30 September 1916, is the translation of a German document captured at the end of August 1916. Its object was to review the lessons to be learned from the fighting and also to look at every aspect of the Corps’ experiences and make recommendations: organization problems, tactics in attack and defence, communications, arms and ammunition, engineer stores, clothing and equipment, transport, rations and so on.
