Excellent book of the largely unknown Dutch Naval humiliation of the British Navy right on its’ doorstep, during the Second Anglo-Dutch War in June 1667. The Dutch sacked the Royal Navy’s stores and facilities at Sheerness, then burnt or captured a significant part of the English battle fleet laid up ‘in Ordinary’ in the Medway. At Upnor the RN at last rallied, and deterred the Dutch from forcing their way to the main prize, Chatham dockyard and the ships within it.
