A battalion history of the 2nd/4th Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment which was formed on Salisbury Plain in September 1914 after the outbreak of the Great War as a unit intended for home service. It became part of the 2/1st Hampshire Brigade in the 2nd Wessex Division. In December 1914 the battalion sailed for India; and from there sailed for Suez, landing in Egypt in May 1917. In May 1918 the battalion sailed for France, landing in Marseilles on June 1.
