Plan Z The Nazi Bid for Naval Dominance
A counter-factual history of the Naval War in World War II, this book asks what would have happened if Hitler had successfully completed his Plan Z - a scheme to build a massive surface fleet to challenge the Royal Navy's dominance of the seas.
The German surface fleet was the weak link in the Nazi armoury in World War II. The U-boat Wolfpacks were a formidable weapon to be sure, but apart from a few prestige ships such as the Bismarck, Tirpitz, Scharnhorst and Gneisnau, the Kriegsmarine was not ready for war. But it was not meant to be that way. Hitler had a plan - Plan Z - to build a war winning fleet by 1942 complete with aircraft carriers. But the war started in 1939 and the fleet was never built. This fascinating ?What If?' book asks what would have happened if Plan Z had been completed on schedule - would the Royal Navy have been up to mastering the greatest challenge in its history?
