This is a lovingly put together tribute to the 3rd (Leek) battery of the IInd North MIdland (Stafford) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, later to become ‘C’ Battery of the 231st Brigade. Although almost up to Establishment strength in 1914. the Battery was swelled by volunteers who responded to Kitchener’s call to arms. After training at Markyate in Hertfordshire, the Battery first saw action, not on the Western Front but in putting down the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, only arriving in France in March 1917. Drawn from the Brigade War Diary in the National Archives and from the memoirs of Battery members and illustrated with a suprisingly large haul of photographs this is a book for anyone interested in artillery in the Great War, and in the military history of Staffordshire in the conflict.
