British intelligence report on the planned German Operation SEA LION - the invasion of Great Britain, issued in April 1941, when the danger was still present.

In Great Britain in late 1940 and 1941 there was an ever-present fear that the Germans, having conquered France, Belgium and the Low Countries, would attack across the Channel. The War Office was fully aware of the situation, and had the British Army minus a great deal of heavy equipment (abandoned at Dunkirk), the Royal Navy, he Royal Air Force and the Home Guard to defend the country. Knowing what the enemy plans, and how he will do it is a great advantage in war, and this pamphlet, issued in April 1941, shows what British Intelligence knew of the German plans for Operation SEA LION, the planned invasion of England. The report presents the British intelligence appraisal of German resources and preparations (German Army, Naval and Air Forces), and also gives details of German exercises in preparation for the attack. It also gives a great amount of detail of the special equipment and weapons the Germans had amassed for the task, particularly amphibious and airborne tanks, rockets, flame throwers, antitank guns and provisions for gas, smoke and antiaircraft weapons. There is also much on the assault boats, ferries and other naval transports. The report then looks at possible enemy strategy and tactics, and offers some idea of when and where the Germans might attack. The report has numerous illustrative charts, plates and tables, and the whole represents a realistic picture of the situation from the view of both the British and the German staffs.
