LETTERS FROM AN EARLY BIRD The Life & Letters of Denys Corbett Wilson 1882-1915

LETTERS FROM AN EARLY BIRD
The Life & Letters of Denys Corbett Wilson 1882-1915
The Life of Corbett Wilson, a rich pioneer aviator who was the first man to fly across the Irish Sea and died after ten months as a pilot on the western front in May 1915.
This is the story of flamboyant aviation pioneer. Corbett Wilson. Universally known as CW , Wilson was a wealthy Old Etonian, who fought in the Boer War, and then enrolled at the Flying School in Pau founded by French aviator Louis Bleriot, where he gained his wings and bought a Bleriot XI plane. CW was the first man to fly across the Irish Sea, and joined the Royal Flying Corps on the outbreak of the Great War. His letters home to his mother give great insights into the early months of the war and the developing role of aircraft. Sadly, after ten months at the front, CW was hit by enemy flak and killed in May 1915.
