HANNIBAL’S LAST BATTLE Zama And The Fall Of Carthage
RRP:
£19.99
OUR PRICE:

A brilliant account of the final campaign of Hannibal, the great Carthaginian commander who came nearer than any to overthrowing Rome. The author contrasts Hannibal's Generalship with that of his adversary Scipio Africanus, and shows how Roman patience and ruthlessness overcame Hannibal's military genius.
Of all the figures of antiquity whose deeds are known to us, the great Carthaginian commander Hannibal's name shines among the brightest. For years this military genius had stood in the way of Rome's domination of the Mediterranean. He even took his elephants and his armies across the Alps and into the heart of Italy, trouncing the Romans in the three battles of Trebia, Lake Trasimene and Cannae. But Hannibal was unable to take Rome itself, and the patient Romans turned the tables on him under a great soldier of their own - Scipio Africanus. Scipio, invaded the Carthaginian heartland in modern Tunisia. defeated Hannibal at the great battle of Zama, and sacked Carthage itself, famously sowing the ruins with salt so that it would never flourish again. Brian Todd Carey tells the story of Hannibal's last campaign, contrasting the leadership of the two great commanders and shows how and why Roman ruthlessness finally destroyed their great rival.
