This comprehensive review of the German Army was first prepared and published by the General Staff, War Office, in 1912 and was amended by them to bring it uptodate to the outbreak of war.Its scope includes tthe army’s organisation, details of conditions of service and recruiting, rates of pay, rank structure and list of abbreviations and glossary of military terms. There are separate chapters on the infantry, cavalry, artillery, and their tactics and on technical troops (sappers, pioneers and the military communication Service). There are also chapters on the Rear Services, Colonial forces and tables giving the complete peacetime deployment of the active Army as on 1st June 1914. There is a fully comprehensive index of 23 pages.
