FORTUNES OF WAR: The Mouchotte Diaries

FORTUNES OF WAR: The Mouchotte Diaries
Combat diaries of one of the few Frenchmen who rejected defeat in 1940 and joined the RAF, rising to command a fighter wing at BIggin HIll and fulfilling his wish to die in combat against the enemy.
Rene Mouchotte was one of the few Frenchmen who refused to accept defeat at the hands of the Nazis in 1940. Commandeering a decrepit plane, he flew from North Africa to GIbraltar and eventually joined the RAF as a fighter pilot, flying Hurricanes and Spitfires. He helped provide air cover for the disastrous Dieppe raid in 1942, and duelled with the Luftwaffe over the Channel and his native France. He rose to command a fighter wing at the famous Biggin Hilll base in Kent, and shot down the 1,000th German plane claimed by his fighter group shortly before his own death in action. Translated from the French, these thrilling diaries are the heroic story of a gallant French ace who joined the immortal ranks of ‘the Few’.
