COMMAND ON THE WESTERN FRONT The Military Career Of Sir Henry Rawlinson 1914-1918
RRP:
£9.99
OUR PRICE:
£2.99
A penetrating analysis of the Great War as seen through the eyes of Sir Henry Rawlinson, Commander of the Fourth Army and in charge of the battle of the Somme.
‘Rawly' - Sir Henry Rawlinson - commanded the Fourth Army on the Western Front in the Great War and was in charge of the Somme offensive. By telling the story of the Western Front through Rawlinson's eyes, the authors are able to follow the events on the battlefields and trace how they were related to the strategies of the High Command. Their book is based on the detailed Diary that Rawlinson kept in which he recorded both his view of tactics and the day-to-day events of the conflict. Included are detailed discussions of such topics as night attacks, poison gas, tanks, and the creeping barrage. Not a conventional biography, the book by two expert historians of the war use Rawlinson as a lens to study the mistakes - and the achievements of the war in the trenches.
