George Binney, a 39-year-old civilian was working in Sweden when Norway was overrun by the Nazis in April 1940. Realising that Britain needed supplies of ball bearings and other Swedish-made steel components to keep the wheels of war industry turning, Binney set about organising shipments to Britain through the blockaded straits of the Skagerrak. In January 1941 - despite opposition - ( from his own side as well as the enemy!) - Binney finally succeeded in ferrying a year’s supply of the material to Britain. This book tells his story - and of those who took up the blockade running after him.
