BLACK FLAG The Surrender Of Germany's U-Boat Forces On Land And At Sea
RRP:

OUR PRICE:

When Germany's new Fuehrer Grand Admiral Karl Donitz ordered his U-boats - along with the rest of Germany - to surrender in May 1945, he was asking a lot. This book tells how the proud and undefeated Wolf Packs finally gave up their hopeless struggle.
When the commander of the German Navy, Grand Admiral Karl Donitz, (who had been named in Hitler's will as his successor as Fuehrer) ordered his proud fleet - along with the rest of Germany - to capitulate in May 1945, he was asking a lot of his loyal sailors. The Kriegsmarine was probably the most formidable component of the Third Reich still functioning. The men of the U-boat fleets, unbroken, undefeated and with morale still high, occupied bases around Europe's coastline from Norway to France that had defied all Allied assaults and surrender demands. The U-boat fleet in being comprised submarines still at sea as far away as Malaya. Ensuring that these men obeyed orders and surrendered was a delicate and tricky task, that passed not without unpleasant incidents - fully described by Lawrence Paterson in this fascinating account of a forgotten aspect of the Third Reich's fall.
