This work is two volumes combined in one - the first covers the period Hastings (1066 } to the battle of Pinkie in 1547, volume II takes us from the Civil War, 1642, to Culloden in 1746. It provides a detailed account of all the major battles over the seven hundred years of British history, setting them against their political and historical background, and analyses each action and the results of the battles. It also contains a guide to the battlefields, describing how to get to them by road. There are battle plans and specially commissioned aerial photos of the scenes today, keyed with the positions of troops. Each volume has its own index and bibliography.
