TEMPEST PILOT

TEMPEST PILOT
The story of an NZ pilot who got off to a shaky start as a Sergeant Pilot flying Spitfires in 485 Squadron RNZAF but after transferring to 486 Squadron RNZAF in May 1943 he worked his way up to Squadron Leader in that squadron and in which he served for the rest of the war. He changed to Typhoons later in 1943 and finally to the Hawker Tempest. Among his experiences was surviving 19 hours in a dinghy off the French coast and a crash landing in a Tempest. At the end of the war he was in 2ATAF, providing air support for the advance across northern Europe.
