Featuring Archive and Contemporary Film Footage, 360 degree panoramas of interiors and exteriors, scale plans, camouflage and marking guides, technical data files, development and service histories, everything but the smell....
From 1942 the American M4 Sherman was the standard Allied main battle tank of the Second World War.Manufactured in vast quantities it made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Germany and Japan.First deployed in significant numbers by the British at the second battle of El Alamein, the Sherman quickly proved a highly effective fighting vehicle. A relatively high vehicle, it was not as heavily armoured as its German equivalents, and its gasoline engine was very prone to catch fire if hit - famously known as “brewing up”! The Sherman was nonetheless both dependable and adaptable and its chassis became the basis for numerous variants, among them amphibious models as well as flame-throwing, mine clearing, rocket-launching and bridge-laying versions. Fighting fierce duels with German Panther and Tiger tanks encountered in the European theatre the Sherman won the Second World War in the West. After the end of the war, the Israeli army in particular continued to develop the Sherman and used it to devastating effect in its conflicts with Syria and Egypt. This CD takes you as close as you’ll get to the Commander’s seat of a Sherman in action!
