RN DESTROYERS IN FOCUS SINCE 1945

RN DESTROYERS IN FOCUS SINCE 1945
The story of the guardian of the Fleet and its most over-used workhorse, from 1945. Covers Second World War veterans down to ships that served in the Falklands and Gulf Wars.
The destroyer is perhaps the British Navy’s most flexible and formidible ship. Emerging before the Great War an an anti-torpedo vessel, the twin funnelled destroyer with its set of two torpedo tubes kept its dominant position as the workhorse of the fleet through the two world wars, serving in every major fleet action. This pictorial history tells the destroyer’s history since the Second World War. From survivotrs of that conflict, down to the ill-fated Sheffield, destroyed by an Exocet missile in the Falklands War, and HMS York, completed in 1985.
