Bearing comparison to the classic German account of submarine warfare, Das Boot, this personal memoir tells the story of the undersea war from the perspective of a Soviet submarine commander. Victor Korzh commanded the Soviet sub. S-7 operating in the shallow waters of the Baltic Sea. His exciting memoir vividly recounts the hazardous life - in which the crew had to brave natural perils, the attentions of the enemy - and the frequent mechanical malfunctions of their own craft. On one particualrly hairy occasion, S-7 became entangled in netting and when freed by the frantic efforts of its crew, was rewarded by being depth-charged! Exciting, moving and brutal, this is a rare account of the war at sea seen through Russian eyes.
