The original club went into liquidation in 1910, and its assets were acquired by a wealthy MP, Sir Henry Norris, and his business associates. Norris moved the club from Woolwich to its long-term home at Highbury in north London, and laid the foundations for the internationally successful club we know today. This book is far more than a straightforward story of a great football club’s early days though- it tells us much about the lives of 19th century munitions workers - how they tested guns, tried out new explosives - sometimes to tragic effect - and even how troops at the Arsenal barracks mutinied.
