KING OF KARELIA: Col PJ Woods and the British Intervention in North Russia 1918-1919: A History and Memoir

KING OF KARELIA: Col PJ Woods and the British Intervention in North Russia 1918-1919: A History and Memoir
Combined biography and memoir of an Ulsterman , C Ol. P.J. Woods who took part in the British military expedition to northern Russia in 1918-1919.
Colonel P.J. Woods was a military adventurer - an Ulsterman whose involvements ranged from serving with Baden-Powell in South Africa; joining the Ulster Volunteer Force to resisist Irish Home Rule; being decorated for gallantry on the Somme; and, after the war joining one of the doomed Allied Expeditionary forces to northern Russia. He later became an MP, working for reconciliation in Northern Ireland and between Britain and Germany. Nick Baron’s biography of this remarkable figure also included Woods’ previously unpublished memoir of his time in Russia when he won the nickname ‘King of Karelia’ for his support for the independence of this territory bordering Russia and Finland.
