As yeomanry cavalry were volunteer soldiers and expected to find their own clothing, much depended on the amount of money from the commanding officer, the combined purses of the officers or even the men themselves.Thus yeomanry head-dress did not necessarily follow regulation patterns and ranged from obsolete helmets through the current patterns and on to exotic foreign types like the Austrian shakos of the Royal Gloucestershire Yeomanry.With so many variations and deviations it is not possible to tell a continuous story of yeomanry head-dresses.
