The story of a division which was also known as the 1st Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army, raised in 1943/44 from men and women volunteering to serve in a combat division on the Eastern Front. Considering what the Germans did in the Ukraine it is amazing they got any volunteers to fight with them. The real motive was to obtain an independent Ukraine, free from Soviet suppression and Nazi Germny subjugation. Destruction of the Soviet hordes threatening their country was the first priority. This account includes descriptions of the brutal battles fought on the Eastern front.
