G.I. MARINES IN WORLD WAR II: From Pearl Harbour to Tokyo Bay

G.I. MARINES IN WORLD WAR II: From Pearl Harbour to Tokyo Bay
The proud WW II history of one of the US army’s toughest elites - the Marines Corps - told through the evolution of their uniforms and equipment.
The battle-hardened Marines have been the elite Corps of the US army since their formation in the 19th century. However, they had their finest hour in the Second World War - exemplified by arguably the war’s most famous image ( reporduced in this book) - of six Marines raising the Stars and Stripes on the summit of Mt Surabachi on Iwo Jima. The book shows the uniforms and kit worn and used by the leathernecks from the entry of ther US into the war at Pearl Harbor to the surrender of Japan in 1945. As befits this fighting force, many of the pictures were taken during actual combat.
