CHURCHILL’S DESERT RATS: From Normandy to Berlin with the 7th Armoured Division

CHURCHILL’S DESERT RATS: From Normandy to Berlin with the 7th Armoured Division
The Desert Rats took their name from the long-tailed African desert rodent, the jerboa, which was adopted as the divisional sign, a red rat on a black, oblong patch. It was one of the best known divisions, to the enemy as much as to the British people. The 7th Armoured Division was a Regular division stationed in Egypt before the war, known as The Mobile Division. When war broke out the title was changed to The Armoured Division (Egypt), but in February 1940 it became the 7th Armoured Division. It fought through the Desert campaign, took part in the assault landing at Salerno and then served in the Italian campaign till early 1944, when it was brought back to England to prepare for the invasion of Europe. This book tells the story of the division’s final campaign, from Normandy to Berlin, in the words of the officers and men who fought with it. Here are first-hand accounts of the fierce fighting in Normandy after the D-Day landings, the break-out and the great advance through northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands and across the Rhine into Germany to the final triumphant entry into Berlin.
